Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy

I had tried many times to "get healthy," but never saw it through. I would become frustrated and give up when I didn't see the results I was looking for. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. I had type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, limited mobility, low self-esteem and lack of energy. I wanted to be able to shop on the other side of the store - not in the plus size section, get ride of my diabetes and sleep apnea. I wanted to be happier, healthier and more active. I wanted the weight of anxiety and depression to be lifted. Since surgery, I no longer take medication for diabetes or use a CPAP machine, I am more active now than ever before, I feel like I am living life and not just existing here on this Earth. My confidence is building, my depression is gone and my anxiety is easing each passing day.

It is never too late to make a change. The staff at Acadiana Weight Loss Surgery and Ochsner Lafayette General Bariatrics provided good information and were always available when we needed. I was ready for the change, and haven't looked back since. I want to enjoy like as much as possible!

Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy

Prior to surgery I was 100 pounds overweight. I was unmotivated, depressed and experienced a lot of joint pain. I wasn't on medication for high blood pressure or diabetes yet, but I was quickly approaching 40 years old and wanted to be proactive instead of waiting for the inevitable health problems associated with being so overweight.

Since my surgery, I have lost 100 pounds and have successfully kept it off. I am energetic, confident, motivated, and thankful every day I decided to take charge of my life. It hasn't been an easy journey. I've worked really hard and continue to do so daily.

Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy

Before surgery I had severe sleep apnea, foot pain, joint and body aches. I felt tired and run down all the time. I enjoyed outdoor activities but was to a point where I could not keep up anymore.

Post-surgery I have very mild sleep apnea and I'm virtually pain-free. My energy level has increased dramatically, and I am so much more active and healthy. My weight no longer interferes with what I want to do. Dr. Gachassin and his team gave me the tools that have allowed me to make my future a brighter and healthier one. They will always have my gratitude. This journey does not end... you don't hit a milestone and simply stop using the tools you have been taught. It is a lifestyle change that has given me back my future, and I plan to live with renewed vigor.

Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy

Pre-surgery, I was 400 pounds at my heaviest. I had sleep apnea. I was so bad, I found myself feeling sleepy all the time. I was waking up every 2 or so hours at night having to go to the bathroom. I found myself very lazy and low energy. It was starting to be so depressing. I could not find clothes to fit anymore. I had gotten up to size 5 XL and 6 XL in shirts and 46-48 in the waist, and sometimes that ban be rather difficult and expensive to find clothes when you are 6 feet 5 inches tall.

Post-surgery, I immediately felt better. I saw the weight dropping and knew that I wanted to lose more. I started exercising and really started watching how and what I ate. I followed the weight loss surgery protocol as close as possible and decided to make life changes. I now exercise (treadmill, steps, light weights, etc.) at least 3 to 4 times a week. I have so much more energy now and feel really confident in myself and my appearance. I get so many compliments now, and I can really see the hard work paying off. It really is a lifestyle change once you have the surgery.

Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy

The reason why I decided to have bariatric surgery was because I wanted a life change for me and my family. I was tired of having high blood pressure and, at the rate I was going, I'm not sure I would have been here to see my only son get married, or have children. That has all changed because of the surgery.

Since surgery, I have completed road races and even a triathlon! I have never been this much in shape. I am addicted to the gym! The Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center Bariatric Staff have been the rock me and my wife stand on. They have been the guides for our success in this whole process.
