Because of the complex nature of this procedure, the Duodenal Switch is typically only recommended for patients suffering from extreme obesity (BMI >50) or as an acceptable procedure for failed weight loss. This procedure is designed to provide extreme weight loss — average loss of 85% of excess weight — and long-term resolution of multiple medical conditions.
