Ochsner Lafayette General Neuroscience Center strives to deliver the best neurological care possible to you and your loved ones. Your brain is a complex organ, and we understand how important it is to keep it functioning well. Our center is composed of both neurology and neurosurgery services, which all fall under the broad umbrella of neuroscience. Neurology is the study of disorders and diseases that affect the brain and nervous system. Neurological disorders usually cannot be diagnosed with just one test, so they require careful examination of the patient’s medical history, physical characteristics, lab tests and daily functions to pinpoint possible underlying conditions. Neurosurgery is the practice of using surgery to correct physical issues with the brain or nervous system.
Whether a condition requires surgery or only needs therapeutics from a neurologist, our center is equipped to provide advanced solutions aligned with a patient’s unique needs. With innovative treatment options and a team of leading physicians, it’s no wonder why the Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center neuroscience program was named a Center of Excellence in 2012.
Conditions We Treat
Our continuum of care provides a smooth transition from initial consultation and diagnosis to pre-surgery preparation, inpatient recovery and outpatient rehabilitation. The main areas of care we focus on are Neurology, Neurosurgery, Sleep Medicine and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS).
In addition to these, Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center also provides Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) services to aid those who undergo surgery. Our hospital has a dedicated rehabilitation floor that features physical, occupational and speech therapies. This program is focused on helping patients become as independent as possible — quickly and safely — to be able to return home.
Using our experienced team of subspecialists and state-of-the-art technologies, we treat a variety of neurological conditions that include:
- Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

A Leader in Technology
Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center is proud to offer leading technology in the fields of neurology and neurosurgery. When you choose our team, you are getting access to an interconnected system of subspecialties and innovative tools that work together to alleviate or correct your condition.
One technology area we emphasize in our program is Interventional Neurology, which is a medical specialty that uses advanced imaging equipment to perform minimally invasive procedures and treat complex diseases of the brain, neck and spine. Interventional Neurology offers a variety of treatment alternatives and expanded therapeutic options for people who might be ineligible for certain treatments.
To complement our Interventional Neurology services, our hospital houses the CyberKnife® Center of Louisiana. Here, specialists perform CyberKnife® robotic radiosurgery, which uses the newest technology to treat tumors in the brain and elsewhere in the body — all without an incision, pain or anesthesia.
In addition to minimally invasive tools, we also offer technology geared specifically towards sleep medicine. Located across the street from Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center, the Sleep Center of Acadiana is the only comprehensive sleep medicine facility in Lafayette. Our center features two neurologists who are board-certified in sleep analysis and therapeutics.
