University Hospital & Clinics held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday to celebrate the opening of its new Infusion Clinic. Located on the fifth-floor wing of the hospital known as “5 East,” the Infusion Clinic is a newly remodeled space separate from the Oncology Clinic, where it was located previously. Local political delegates were present with administrators from UHC and Lafayette General Health.

“We continue to improve our services and facilities at UHC to better serve our community,” says Jared Stark, CEO at UHC. “But, this is not only better for our patients, but it enables our staff to perform more comfortably and efficiently, which leads to better outcomes for everyone.”

The Infusion Clinic is where patients receive intravenous (IV) treatments, such as chemotherapy, pain relief, hydration, nutrition and antibiotic drips. Before this new Infusion area was constructed, high patient volume in the Oncology Unit allowed only limited space for infusions on days when the Oncology Clinic was open. The new Infusion area is a 14-bed space, capable of handling a larger patient volume.
