St. Martin Hospital Opens New Medicaid Clinic

By Lafayette General Health
July 6, 2017

St. Martin Hospital (SMH) is opening a new Medicaid Clinic located in the St. Martin Hospital Specialty Center. The clinic will start seeing patients on Monday, July 10.

The new Medicaid Clinic is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments are available, but not necessary. The clinic currently accepts AmeriHealth and LA Healthcare Connection, other Medicaid providers are coming soon.

“Patient’s shouldn’t use the ER for minor illnesses or injuries,” says Karen Wyble, CEO – St. Martin Hospital. “This new clinic provides anyone with Medicaid a faster alternative. Patients will no longer experience an extended wait.”

A common misconception is the Emergency Room (ER) treats patients on a “first come first serve” basis. However, the ER actually treats patients in order of the severity of their condition. Patients facing life-threatening conditions are seen before those with non-life-threatening conditions, therefore, increasing wait time for many.
