St. Martin Hospital Named Anticoagulation Center of Excellence

St. Martin Hospital (SMH) is pleased to announce it has passed the Anticoagulation Forum’s assessment test and has been named an Anticoagulation Center of Excellence. This illustrates SMH’s strong commitment to providing the highest level of care to patients taking antithrombotic medications in St. Martin Parish.

The Anticoagulation Centers of Excellence program helps healthcare professionals provide the highest level of care and achieve the best possible outcomes for patients on antithrombotic medications. The program offers a roadmap to consistent, sustainable excellence in five key areas of patient care. Because SMH successfully met the rigorous standards in each patient care pillar, it is considered an Anticoagulation Center of Excellence for two years.

The Coumadin Clinic administers anticoagulants (blood thinners) to help prevent blood clots in blood vessels, and their migration elsewhere in the body. Coumadin is a blood thinner credited with decreasing the risk of strokes and blood clots with very few side effects. Anticoagulants are used in treating and preventing harmful clots that may occur in veins, lungs, abnormal heartbeats or following a heart valve replacement.

St. Martin Hospital’s Coumadin Clinic is open from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday – Thursday, and 6:30 a.m. to Noon on Fridays.
