St. Martin Hospital (SMH) and Lafayette General Foundation (LGF) hosted its second annual St. Martin Hospital Celebration event. Held at Poche Bridge Country Club, the event featured; live music, a cigar and bourbon bar and a live and silent auction that included artwork and vacation getaways. The event raised more than $40,000 which will go towards improvements and upgrades at SMH.
“We invest so much into caring for our patients,” said Karen Wyble, CEO of St. Martin Hospital. “To see that returned in such a big way truly leaves me speechless. We’re not only celebrating the successes of the hospital, but the men and women who have helped SMH become what it is today.”
The night honored two men who have made significant contributions to the growth and development of St. Martin Hospital and its community. Burton Dupuis was honored for serving the community in many different capacities. A school teacher, school superintendent, fire chief and many others. Dupuis retired from his role as CEO of St. Martin Hospital in 2008.
Warren J. Degatur, Jr., M.D., was also recognized for his years of service. A resident of Breaux Bridge, Dr. Degatur serves as Chief of Staff at St. Martin Hospital. Dr. Degatur has been practicing medicine in the Breaux Bridge area for over 30 years.
“St. Martin Hospital is a reflection of the individuals we are honoring this year,” says Cian Robinson, Executive Director of Lafayette General Foundation. “The hospital and the parish would not be where it is without the commitment of outstanding citizens like Burton Dupuis and Dr. Degatur.”
