St. Martin Hospital administration, staff and physicians celebrated the hospital’s 45th anniversary Wednesday, October 15 outdoors on the facility’s campus.
Katie Hebert, CEO of St. Martin Hospital gave opening remarks, thanking all for attending. She recounted a brief history of the founders, physicians and administrators who were instrumental in establishing Gary Memorial and developing it into the vibrant community hospital that St. Martin Hospital is today.
The most noticeable development at St. Martin Hospital in the past two years is the 7,000 sq. ft. expansion of the hospital. Patients can now enjoy an expanded Emergency Department, outpatient services, renovated lab, radiology, respiratory therapy, outpatient rehab and wound care departments.
Present at the celebration were past administrators Burton Dupuis, Rena Mouisset, and Coatney Raymond, widow of John Raymond, Gary Memorial’s first administrator. Special recognition was given to Mrs. Charles Gary, in attendance, widow of one of Gary Memorial’s founders. David Callecod, Lafayette General Health President, and Patrick Gandy, Lafayette General Medical Center CEO, were on hand thanking Hebert and her staff for their efforts in advancing the hospital to a level of national notoriety. In 2009, St. Martin Hospital was fully acquired by Lafayette General Medical Center, Acadiana’s largest community-owned, not-for-profit hospital.
Among this year’s distinctions to St. Martin Hospital are: acknowledgement as a 2014 Most Wired hospital for using health information technology to improve performance; the Distinguished Business of the Year Award from the Breaux Bridge Chamber of Commerce; and, most recently, the hospital was named among the “100 Best Places to Work in Healthcare” by Modern Healthcare magazine.
