The first day of school in St. Martin Parish on August 10 was welcomed with the “Paint the Town Blue and Gold” decorating contest in a show of support for St. Bernard School (SBS). On Wednesday, August 17, SBS announced that St. Martin Hospital (SMH) was the Grand Prize winner of the decorating contest.

St. Martin Hospital participated in the contest by adorning the main entrance in blue and gold decorations. Genee Latiolais, a physical therapist assistant contracted through Kindred Healthcare in the Physical Therapy Dept., volunteered to lead the decorating efforts.

The decorations, under the theme “Crusader Pride Explodes at SMH,” featured an inflatable cannon and crafted cannon balls and black bombshells; streamers hanging over the main entrance doors, balloons tied to the brick columns at the front entrance; ribbons tied to the plants next to the main doors; and painted decorations on the glass window above the entrance, donning the phrase “Once a Crusader, Always a Crusader.”

“As a local hospital, we enjoy showing support for our community,” says Karen Wyble, CEOat St. Martin Hospital. “We want to show our children and their parents that we are here for them.”
