Ochsner Lafayette General Foundation now accepting applications for Mayci Breaux Scholarship

LAFAYETTE – Ochsner Lafayette General Foundation is now accepting applications for the Mayci Breaux Scholarship Fund. The scholarship will be awarded to the student(s) who most exemplify Mayci’s passion for life and her pursuit of academic excellence in the field of radiologic technology.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a Louisiana resident
  • Must be enrolled in a radiologic technology program
  • Must attend or is attending a Louisiana college/university
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above at time of application
  • Past recipients may apply.

This is the sixth year Ochsner Lafayette General Foundation has been able to offer the scholarship to honor the memory of Mayci Breaux, a victim in the 2015 Grand Theatre shooting. What started with a $100 donation after the tragedy quickly grew into a $50,000 scholarship fund, when the scholarship was first announced.

“The scholarship has allowed us to build a legacy that will go on for many years and provide students with the financial assistance to complete the education that Mayci dreamed of since high school. She will live on through the scholarship recipients and the communities served,” said Nancy Broadhurst, executive director of the Lafayette General Foundation.

Applications for the 2021-2022 award year are due Wednesday, August 18, 2021. Awards are made based on the availability of accrued interest from the endowment. The expected award date is September 11, 2021, and public announcement of the winner(s) will be embargoed until September 25, 2021 (Mayci’s birthday). To apply, click here.
