Lafayette General Southwest (LGSW), located at the corner of Congress and Ambassador Caffery Pkwy., held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday to showcase its expanded Rehabilitation Department occupying a completely renovated 4th floor.
LGSW, a campus of Lafayette General Medical Center (LGMC), will begin housing inpatient physical rehabilitation services for both locations as soon as the Louisiana Department of Health & Hospitals and State Fire Marshal complete their onsite surveys of the location.
The expanded Physical Rehabilitation Unit, licensed for 21 beds, is a fully renovated space with new flooring, paint and signage, among other improvements to patient rooms. A new, windowed charting room lets nurses observe patients doing their rehab work in the gym.
LGMC CEO Patrick W. Gandy, Jr., introduced LGSW Administrator Zack Landry, who welcomed back LGSW employees that had temporarily transferred to LGMC during construction. They were joined by Dr. Stephen Rees, Medical Director of Rehabilitation Services and Assistant Vice President of Medical Affairs, and other staff members of the health system in “removing the bandage” in a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring an ACE™ bandage as the ribbon.
The bandage was used in the ceremony as a common tool in all three disciplines of the Rehabilitation Department. Physical Therapy uses the bandage in wound care; Occupational Therapy uses the bandage to stabilize splints; and Speech Therapy uses it to stabilize a tracheotomy patient.
