Becker’s Hospital Review recently released its 2017 edition of “100 Hospitals and Health Systems with great oncology programs”. Only two facilities in Louisiana earned recognition, Lafayette General Medical Center and Ochsner Medical Center. In 2015, Lafayette General Health and Ochsner Health System formed a strategic partnership to increase local access to care, improve quality and reduce the cost of healthcare for patients across southwest Louisiana.

In fact, a joint venture was just announced on September 12 to provide a new pediatric subspecialty clinic in Lafayette, staffed by a renowned team of physicians from Ochsner Hospital for Children.

According to Becker’s Hospital Review, “The hospitals and health systems selected lead the way in oncology expertise, outcomes, research and treatment options.”

Hospitals were selected based on rankings, ratings, designations and outstanding achievement awards for the specialty from a range of firms and clinical bodies, including U.S. News & World Report, CareChex, BlueCross BlueShield Association, National Cancer Institute and American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC).

Cancer Center of Acadiana (CCA) at Lafayette General is among an elite group of cancer care providers recognized as an Accredited Cancer Program. CoC granted a three-year accreditation to CCA, with commendation, in 2013, and again in 2016. In 2016, CCAreceived all eligible commendations, earning the gold rating, the highest rating possible.CCA was named a recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award for exceeding all of the measured standards in the CoC accreditation survey.

Lafayette General’s cancer program also earned a Women’s Choice Award® as One of America’s Best Hospitals for Cancer Care for the past three years. This evidence-based designation is the only cancer care award that identifies the country’s best healthcare institutions based on robust criteria that considers female patient satisfaction, clinical excellence and what women say they want from a hospital.
