Lafayette General Medical Center (LGMC) was recently named among America’s Best Hospitals for Orthopedics. This award is given by WomenCertified® to hospitals with comprehensive orthopedic programs that meet certain customer survey scores and wellness criteria.

“We are working diligently to raise the bar for Orthopedics in this region,” says Patrick W. Gandy, Jr., CEO of LGMC. “Bringing in top orthopedic surgeons like John Schutte, Angela Mayeux-Hebert and Scott Yerger has helped us take orthopedic care in Acadiana to another level, and we’re not done, yet,” he says. Gandy says the hiring of more orthopedic surgeons will be announced later this summer.

To identify its winners, WomenCertified first selects hospitals that provide a minimum number of arthroscopy, joint replacement and spine surgery services, as well as onsite MRIand physical therapy services. These hospitals are then judged on their HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) patient satisfaction surveys, using measures that are important to women. Hospitals with abnormally high rates of surgical complications or infections are disqualified.

WomenCertified also utilizes data made available by Medicare and follows an objective and uniform method to determine its Women’s Choice Award winners.

Women make or influence more than 90 percent of health care decisions for themselves and their families, according to a study published by the American Academy of Family Physicians. The Women’s Choice Award signals that a hospital meets high standards regarding a woman’s preferences, and the distinction allows women to make an informed decision about where to go for care for themselves or their family.

“As one of America’s Best Hospitals for Orthopedics, Lafayette General Medical Center is demonstrating their commitment to fulfill the needs and preferences of women by meeting the highest standards of excellence and performance,” states Delia Passi, CEO and founder of the Women’s Choice Award program, and former group publisher of Working Woman and Working Mother magazines.

WomenCertified represents the collective voice of female consumers and is a trusted referral source for top businesses and brands identified as meeting the needs and preferences of women.
