Lafayette General Medical Center (LGMC) has recently partnered with WomenHeart: National Hospital Alliance (NHA). NHA is a program of WomenHeart: The National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease. It is the nation’s only patient centered organization serving nearly 48 million American women living with or at risk for heart disease.
NHA is comprised of hospitals throughout the country committed to advancing heart health. This partnership seeks to ensure that women suffering from heart disease in Acadiana have access to information, education, and patient support services.
“We are excited to partner with WomenHeart: National Hospital Alliance,” says Patrick Gandy, LGMC CEO. “Our mission is To Restore, Maintain and Improve Health, and that’s exactly what we are doing with WomenHeart.”
LGMC will begin the process of developing a WomenHeart Support Network, the nation’s only peer led support network for women with heart disease. The support network will be led by heart patients who have been trained by WomenHeart. With the help of WomenHeart, these women will partner with LGMC to deliver important messages of prevention, early and accurate diagnosis, proper treatment, and assistance towards post-discharge support networks for female heart patients.
Lafayette General Foundation is facilitating the grant dollars between WomenHeart and LGMC.
Research shows that peer support is a critical component of helping women with their recovery and living with this chronic and often life-threatening condition.
“WomenHeart is thrilled to welcome LGMC to the National Hospital Alliance,” said Mary E. McGowan, WomenHeart CEO. “This membership represents a real commitment to advancing female heart health in Acadiana by teaming with WomenHeart to bring free education and support services to their female heart patients.”
