Lafayette General Medical Center (LGMC) has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval by becoming a Certified Orthopedic Joint Replacement Program for Shoulder replacement. This certification reflects LGMC’s compliance with standards set forth by the commission to produce evidence of performance improvement activities. In June 2014, LGMC earned certification in hip and knee replacement.
Certification is an important achievement for a hospital because it demonstrates a commitment to providing a higher standard of care; provides organizational framework for management; offers a competitive edge in the marketplace; enhances the ability of the hospital to recruit and develop staff; and insurers and other third parties recognize the certification.
Certification requirements are based on national standards, use of evidence-based clinical practices, and collection and analysis of performance measures. LGMC underwent rigorous reviews and an onsite visit to secure the two-year certification.
“With this certification, our orthopedic program continues to solidify its position as one of the best programs anywhere,” says Patrick W. Gandy, Jr., LGMC CEO. “We are now certified in all three aspects of The Joint Commission’s Joint Replacement Program – Hip, Knee and Shoulder. That’s a proud accomplishment for our orthopedic surgeons and our core orthopedic team here at LGMC.”
