Lafayette General Medical Center Among 100 Best Hospitals for Patient Experience

Lafayette General Medical Center (LGMC) has been named a recipient of the Women’s Choice Award as one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Patient Experience. This distinction is the only award that identifies the nation’s best healthcare institutions measured against the needs and preferences of women. These results provide women the opportunity to identify which hospitals deliver the quality patient experience they seek for themselves and their families.

Being named and recognized as a hospital of choice among women represents the strongest and most important consumer message in today’s healthcare marketplace. It considers that women account for 94% of all health care decisions for them and their families, according to the Center for Talent Innovation. This is the fourth-consecutive year that LGMC has won the award.

“Women are important decision makers when it comes to families facing health care choices,” says Patrick W. Gandy, Jr., LGMC CEO. “So, we work very hard to build a level of trust and comfort with our patients so that they can choose our hospital based on a high degree of confidence that they will receive the best patient experience.”

The qualification process for America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Patient Experience is unique in that it is the only national list focused on female patient satisfaction and recommendation scores. The process begins with scores derived by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for each hospital in the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) database. The score takes a subset of questions used by HCAHPS that are shown by research and experience to be more important to women. Weight is applied to each of those questions to adjust for relative importance and a numerical score is achieved.

There are four bed-size categories used to determine the America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Patient Experience award winners. The four size categories include hospitals with up to 100 beds, 101-250 beds, 251-400 beds, and 401-plus beds. LGMC has 365 staffed beds.

“At the Women’s Choice Award, we’ve identified America’s Best Hospitals across the nation to help women make smart health care choices for themselves and their family members,” says Delia Passi, CEO and Founder of the Women’s Choice Award. “Being treated with the proper level of care impacts one’s health, well-being and healing so it is critical for women to know those hospitals that have demonstrated the highest level of quality care to their patients, with a special focus on the female experience,” adds Passi.

This credential signifies LGMC’s commitment and passion towards an extraordinary health care experience for women and all patients. Each hospital carrying the seal of the Women’s Choice Award is generously contributing to the Women’s Choice Award’s mission of empowering women and their families to make the best health care choices.

“A hospitalization for any reason is anxiety-producing and highly emotional for the patient and their loved ones. Hospitals earning this distinction have demonstrated their commitment to ensuring the patients and family’s needs are at the center of their care,” notes Sharyn Lee, President of the Women’s Choice Award Healthcare Division.

As an additional acknowledgement of the 2015 award recipients, a USA Today national announcement will highlight the 100 Best in 2015.
