Lafayette General Imaging Earns ACR Accreditation

Lafayette General Imaging (LGI) has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in positron emission tomography (PET) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). This accreditation reflects LGI’s ongoing commitment to the quality and safety of PETs performed.

PET, also called PET imaging or a PET scan, detects changes in the chemical functioning of cells in internal organs and live tissue. It’s a type of nuclear medicine imaging which uses small amounts of radioactive material, ingested by the patient, to diagnose or treat a variety of diseases, including many types of cancers, heart disease and certain other abnormalities within the body.

An accreditation is an important achievement for a hospital because it exemplifies their commitment to providing a higher quality of care while holding its professionals to a higher standard of service. The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. LGI went through a rigorous peer-review process done by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. The accreditation was done as an external, independent review of LGI as an organization against nationally accepted standards, as well as Lafayette General Health’s policies, procedures and results.
