Lafayette General Health’s IT Department was named #4 among the 2015 Best Large Hospital IT Departments by Healthcare IT News, a national industry news and information publication. Healthcare IT News praised Lafayette General’s Mike Dozier, Vice President and Chief Information Officer of IT, for keeping the IT Department “continuing on a straight and steady course” during a tumultuous time for hospitals and IT departments, particularly during ICD-10 billing conversion.
Nominations for 2015 Best Hospital IT Departments were supplied by website readers in May. At the close of nominations in June, 169 IT departments had been nominated from across the country. From those, 65 hospitals were selected as winners based on employee surveys and other weighted measures. The survey focused on things such as workplace culture, professional development and advancement, and employee compensation benefits and recognition, amongst other topics. The Large Hospital category is for departments with a number of employees between 76-199. LGH had 85 employees at the time of the survey.
“The excellence we strive for is not achieved without sharing measurable goals and we work as a team to contribute to our success,” Dozier tells Healthcare IT News. “Our employees and managers share similar goals and metrics, which allows us to continue to maintain a well-run and continually improving department. We continually educate, communicate, and focus on our vision and strategy to keep everyone moving in the right direction while project managing our workload to be as efficiently as possible.”
The Best Hospital IT Departments award is intended to identify successful departments and pay tribute to the teams that work on the frontlines in helping hospitals navigate a transformative era of technology. The award was launched in 2011, making this the 5th annual award. Healthcare IT News has more than 54,000 subscribers.
“This is great news for our team and for our organization to be proud of,” adds Dozier. “All of us contribute to having a great place to work at and I know we will continue as a team to improve to make this an even better place.”
In June, LGH’s IT Department was named among the 2015 Best Places to Work in IT by industry publication Computerworld.
