Lafayette General Health Employees Donate Turkeys to Second Harvest Food Bank

Lafayette General Health, in cooperation with Rouse’s Supermarket, delivered 160 frozen holiday turkeys, weighing over 2,039 pounds, to Second Harvest Food Bank on Wednesday afternoon in Lafayette. The turkeys were donated by LGH employees who opted to turn their employer-provided vouchers for holiday gift turkeys back into Rouse’s to be donated to Second Harvest.

Second Harvest Food Bank stores and distributes food for those in need through their network of non-profit member agencies across South Louisiana.

LGH employees donating their holiday turkeys to Second Harvest has become somewhat of a tradition. A few years ago, only a handful of employees decided to donate their turkeys. But, that number has soared into triple digits in recent years. In the last two years, LGHemployees have donated over 4,077 pounds of turkey to Second Harvest Food Bank.

In Acadia Parish, Acadia General Hospital in Crowley donated a total of over 1,000 pounds of turkey to Ms. Helen’s Soup Kitchen, Faith House Crowley, Welcome House and Cadence of Acadiana, a subsidiary of Goodwill Industries.

In St. Martin Parish, employees of St. Martin Hospital in Breaux Bridge donated their turkeys to St. Bernard/St. Francis Food Pantry.
