Lafayette General Foundation (LGF) is now accepting applications for the Mayci Breaux Scholarship Fund. The scholarship will be awarded to the student(s) who most exemplify Mayci’s passion for life and her pursuit of academic excellence in the field of radiologic technology.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a Louisiana resident
  • Must be female
  • Must be enrolled in a radiologic technology program
  • Must attend or is attending a Louisiana college/university
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above at time of application

This is the second year LGF has been able to offer the scholarship to honor the memory of Mayci Breaux, a victim in the 2015 Grand Theatre shooting. What started with a $100 donation after the tragedy quickly grew into a $50,000 scholarship fund endowed through Goldman Sachs.

“The reaction to the scholarship has been awe-inspiring,” says Cian Robinson, Executive Director of LGF. “Two years later, people are still trying to find ways to help, as the fund has exceeded $50,000. The Breaux’s have been instrumental throughout this process. It is our goal to continue providing scholarships to young women who truly embody Mayci’s spirit.”

Applications for the 2017-2018 award year are due August 11, 2017, by 5 p.m. Awards are made based on the availability of accrued interest from the endowment. The expected award date is September 1, 2017, and public announcement of the winner(s) will be embargoed until September 25, 2017 (Mayci’s birthday).
