Lafayette General Foundation Opens Courtyard

Lafayette General Foundation held a grand opening ceremony today for La Place de Vie, a new courtyard in front of Lafayette General Medical Center. The courtyard was designed as a tranquil outdoor space for patients, families and employees to enjoy a moment of quiet and reflection.

La Place de Vie, in French meaning A Place of Life, features personalized bricks, benches, pavers and a one-of-a-kind metal oak tree, all memorializing the names of supporters of Lafayette General Medical Center. The courtyard will also host flag-raising ceremonies for Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA) to honor the contributions of organ donors and their families.

Lafayette General Health (LGH) has been heavily involved for years in facilitating organ and tissue donations through LOPA and Southern Eye Bank. In speaking of the System’s commitment to organ and tissue donations, LGH President David L. Callecod, FACHE, reported that University Hospital & Clinics had recently facilitated their first organ donation in over five years.
The Foundation’s goal is to raise funds in order to invest in new innovation and health care technology. “Just as we encourage patients to play a part in their health, we empower the people of Acadiana to invest in creating a healthier future for all of us,” adds LGMC CEOPatrick W. Gandy, Jr. “La Place de Vie symbolizes the trust that patients put in our care – a care that we take to heart at Lafayette General.”
