Hundreds gathered at the Grand Opera House of the South on Friday, March 31, for Acadia General Hospital’s biggest fundraising event. The Acadia General Hospital Gala, now in its third year, raised more than $125,000 towards the expansion and renovation of the hospital’s new emergency room.
“Our gala is a true celebration of Acadia General Hospital, all who care for the people of Acadia Parish and those who help serve our community on a daily basis,” said Ted Carmichael. He and his wife Judy served as Honorary Chairs of this year’s gala. Judy Carmichael added, “We all depend on our hospital’s excellent doctors, nurses and staff who work tirelessly to provide medical care for the residents of Acadia Parish.”
Over 300 attendees enjoyed a cocktail reception, seated dinner, live music as well as a live and silent auction. Senator Fred Mills led the auction featuring vacation packages, mystery prizes and a puppy. Additionally, $10,000 was raised to purchase heart monitors vital to the emergency room.
“This is the largest fundraising event that we’ve had,” said Glenn Dailey, Interim CEO of Acadia General Hospital. “The support from our working partners and the community demonstrates the commitment to meet the critical needs of our community owned hospital. We truly are blessed to live in such a generous community.”
Donna Corley, President of Shetler-Corley Motors and Don Shetler of Crowley along with sons Chris and Don Eddie Corley drew the winning ticket for this year’s Golf Cart Raffle. The winning ticket went to Leonard Beard of Crowley. The night was capped off with a surprise donation of $20,000 from CLECO. Jeff Baudier, Chief Marketing and Development Office said, “We will continue to remain a committed advocate to making sure this much-needed expansion gets done.”
$800,00 has been raised toward the $4 million ER project since the inaugural Gala in 2015.
