Lafayette General Endoscopy Center (LGEC) has again been awarded a three-year Certificate of Recognition for Quality in Endoscopy from the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), a leading gastrointestinal medical society.

ASGE promotes the highest standards of endoscopic training and practice, fosters endoscopic (endoh-scopic) research and is the foremost resource for endoscopic education. The Society honors endoscopy units in the U.S. that demonstrate a commitment to patient safety and quality in endoscopy by meeting the program’s rigorous criteria.

To be recognized by ASGE, an endoscopy unit must demonstrate policy adherence and ongoing performance assessment relative to key quality indicators. The unit must also attest that it has established infrastructure and personnel dedicated to infection control and prevention.

Lafayette General Endoscopy Center has received this quality and safety recognition since 2009.

“We are honored to be recognized once again by ASGE for our efforts to enhance quality and safety in our endoscopy unit,” says Marsha M. Williamson, RN, LGEC Nurse Administrator. LGEC Medical Director Stephen G. Abshire, M.D., adds, “Through ongoing education and continued compliance with the ASGE Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program requirements, we demonstrate our dedication to the delivery of high-quality patient care.”

“We are proud to acknowledge these endoscopy units through our Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program for their commitment to promoting the highest standards of safety and quality,” says Jonathan Cohen, M.D., FASGE, chair of ASGE Quality Assurance in Endoscopy Committee. “By ensuring infection control principles are adhered to, continually assessing the competency of staff and monitoring patient satisfaction, ASGE-recognized units contribute to the public’s confidence in endoscopy, a life-saving technology.”
