Extended Hours for Outpatient Services

St. Martin Hospital wants to make their services readily accessible to the community. In those efforts, outpatient services will now offer certain tests with physician orders 24/7.

Outpatient services are medical procedures or tests that can be done without an overnight stay. Things like lab work, general X-Rays, heart monitor, EKG and pulmonary function tests can be taken at your convenience, day or night, 24/7. Enter through the emergency room entrance after hours, during holidays or during weekend hours and patient access staff will direct you to outpatient services. Please ensure you have your orders on hand in case the physician offices are closed.

For all other procedures, outpatient services is opened from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to noon. These services available are as follows: MRI and 64 slice CT – a Magnetic Resonance Imaging – or MRI– scan uses strong magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed images of the organs and tissues within the body. It is used to diagnose a variety of conditions, from torn
ligaments to tumors. Also, MRIs are very useful for examining the brain and spinal cord.

The CT scan can detect bone and joint problems, like complex bone fractures and tumors. If you have a condition like cancer, heart disease, emphysema or liver masses, CT scans can detect or help doctors see any changes. They show internal injuries and bleeding. Mammograms – Mammography is the process of using low energy X-rays to examine the breast for diagnosis and screening. The goal is for early detection of breast cancer, typically through detection of characteristic masses or micro calcifications. Ultrasound – the ultrasound scan uses highfrequency sound waves to make an image of internal body structures. Doctors commonly use ultrasound to study a developing fetus, abdominal and pelvic organs, muscles and tendons or the heart and blood vessels. Stress Lab/Nuc Med – Nuclear medicine imaging uses small amounts of radioactive material to diagnose, evaluate or treat a variety of diseases. These include many types of cancers, heart disease, gastrointestinal, endocrine or neurological disorders and other abnormalities. Bone Density – Bone density is used to assess the strength of the bones and the probability of fracture in persons at risk for osteoporosis. The test is simple, noninvasive procedure and takes a few minutes.
