Don't be hungry! - Eat a snack before going to a party, and snack on nuts or crunchy veggies throughout the day. Not sure healthy snacks will be available? Bring your own, and tame your hunger!
All you can eat - Fill up on fresh vegetables first, then see what space is left for the starchy foods. Remember, ½ of your plate should be a non-starchy vegetable.
Chew, chew, chew - Take small bites and eat slowly. Don’t drink your calories. Stick to calorie-free drinks.
Get moving to get your blood sugar down - After eating, consider walking, dancing or playing indoor games with friends and family.
Swap out - Try bell pepper strips in place of chips and salsa; cauliflower rice instead of real rice and mashed cauliflower in place of mashed potatoes or potato salad.
Brush your teeth - Who doesn't love a clean mouth? Brush your teeth as soon as you're done eating to help you avoid going back for more.
Tame anxiety - Keep a non-caloric drink in your hand throughout the celebrations. Find a quiet place - even the bathroom - and take some deep breaths when you need a break from all the stimuli. Consider taking a walk.
Don't stop starting - Don't let negative emotions take your head out of the game. If you mess up today, do better tomorrow. No need to eat yourself through Christmas because you don't want to start a new diet during the holidays. Never stop starting.
