Dr. Deborah Johnson, a Hematologist/Oncologist with Cancer Center of Acadiana (CCA), is transferring her practice from the CCA location at Lafayette General Medical Center to the new CCA location at Opelousas General Health System. A native of Opelousas, Dr. Johnson has decided to continue her professional career caring for patients in her hometown.
“She will be deeply missed as one of the original physicians to start the cancer center at Lafayette General,” stated Lafayette General Medical Center Vice President of Cancer Services Craig Ortego. “We realize she is ready for a homecoming and we couldn’t think of a better physician to start our newest cancer center location.”
Dr. Johnson has years of experience treating severe cases of cancer. She was instrumental in helping CCA develop its patient-centered approach to patient care. She first joined the staff at Lafayette General Medical Center in 2009. Her previous experience includes Lafayette Hematology-Oncology, University Medical Center, Southwest Oncology Associates and Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. Dr. Johnson will refer her infusion cases to Opelousas General Health System to support the local hospital.
CCA at Opelousas General Health System will open on November 30 at 627 E. Prudhomme Street, Suite 2. The clinic is open Monday – Thursday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. This is the seventh location of CCA across Acadiana. Current patients of Dr. Johnson can choose to continue their care in Opelousas or transfer to any of CCA’s other medical oncologists in Lafayette, Dr. Michael Cain, Dr. Victoria Panelli, Dr. Sal Malad or Dr. Molly Thomas.
