Cancer Center of Acadiana Celebrates Cancer Survivors Day

Cancer Center of Acadiana (CCA) at Lafayette General celebrated Cancer Survivors Day with a “Hats off to Survivors” themed event at Burden Riehl Center on Saturday, June 4.

CCA hosts Cancer Survivors Day which celebrates survivors in Acadiana. While honoring patients and survivors, the event also celebrates their family members, their team of health care providers and their friends. This year survivors and their families’ were invited to wear their favorite hats to show support for fighting cancer. The event included live music performed by Speakeasy.

CCA also announced it has commissioned renowned Wabash College Art Professor Douglas P. Calish to create a work of art depicting the many unique cancer journeys experienced throughout Acadiana. Calish will work with patients, survivors, family members, friends and staff to help develop a series of tiles for a wall relief sculpture. The individual tiles come together to connect the individuals and unique stories as one CCAcommunity.

Musician and Councilman Kevin Naquin presented Lafayette General Foundation with a check for $12,500. The donation from Kevin Naquin for Pancreatic Research, will benefit the Cancer Research Department at CCA. “I’ve chosen pancreatic cancer, because it has touched my family directly,” said Kevin Naquin. “To help make an impact, either save someone’s life, find a cure, or find something that can help prolong the life expectancy of someone that has pancreatic cancer.”

Lafayette General has several active clinical trials including many cancer related trials along with pancreatic cancer.

“Lafayette General Foundation and Cancer Center of Acadiana are honored to have such generous support from the members of Acadiana,” said Cian Robinson, Lafayette General Foundation Executive Director. “With donations such as the one received today, we are able to continue to fund CCA’s cancer research programs.”
