Black Lives Matter at Lafayette General Health

By David L. Callecod, FACHE
June 9, 2020

Like the rest of you, I have been saddened and disturbed over the unjust killings of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and, most recently, George Floyd. It is a tragic reminder of the inequalities in our nation and how divided so many of us live as Americans.

Violence, discrimination, racism and hate speech have no place here at Lafayette General Health. We are committed to standing as allies with our employees – black, white and all races – who are fighting to correct social injustice.

Standing together is the only way.

I understand that I will never fully understand. However, I empathize and want to understand how you feel, and to create unity where there is division. As the leader of Lafayette General Health, I can make a commitment to listen, learn and amplify the incredible voices, talents and thoughts of our employees.

It is our responsibility to the diverse population we employ and who trust us with their care to maintain an open and ongoing dialogue. As leaders, we must address the deep-rooted issues tearing down our country. As healers, we must use this gift to show everyone, but especially people of color, that their lives matter and are just as worthy as any other. Our mission To Restore, Maintain and Improve Health applies to everyone because, here, black lives matter and all human life is sacred.

The late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said it best, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” There is no room for racism or injustice at Lafayette General Health, and it simply will not be tolerated.

We see you.
We stand with you.
We are here to be part of the solution.

In solidarity,
