Southern Eye Bank presented LGMC its 2014 “Hospital of the Year” award for being a local leader in cornea donation. This is the fifth time LGMC has received the SEB award.
Lafayette General Medical Center (LGMC) garnered the Louisiana Quality Foundation’s (LQF) highest award, the Louisiana Performance Excellence Award (LPEA). LQF’s awards program recognizes performance excellence leadership in both profit and non-profit Louisiana organizations in the areas of manufacturing, service, health care, education and the public sector. LPEA recipients have successfully achieved benchmark criteria in alignment with the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. Baldrige, initiated in 1987, is an internationally recognized standard for performance excellence in business, education and health care. The Baldrige Program helps organizations achieve best-in-class levels of performance by identifying role model organizations and sharing best practices. LGMC’s application, which detailed processes that have helped the organization reach and sustain nationally recognized levels in patient care and patient satisfaction, was reviewed at the state level by LQF. A panel of examiners then conducted a site visit. LQF has three different award winners based on submission of 1) organizational profile, 2) Baldrige criteria and 3) results. Performance Challenge Award winners have demonstrated excellence in the organizational profile, while Commitment to Performance Award winners show proficiency in both the organizational profile and Baldrige criteria. LPEA winners excel in all three areas.
Both University Hospital & Clinics (UHC) and Lafayette General Medical Center (LGMC) earned Quality Respiratory Care Recognition (QRCR) under a national program aimed at helping patients and families make informed decisions about the quality of the respiratory care services available in hospitals. About 700 hospitals, or approximately 15%, of all hospitals in the United States applied for and received this award. UHC and LGMC are the only two hospitals in Acadiana who earned QRCR status.
