Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital Holds Sign Unveil and Anniversary Celebration

By Lafayette General Health
November 18, 2015

Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital (AKMH) held a sign-unveiling ceremony on Wednesday to welcome its full management agreement with Lafayette General Health (LGH). A new marquee sign at the hospital was featured as part of the celebration.

AKMH reached an agreement earlier this year to have LGH take over complete management through a long-term lease of the facility. The property still belongs to the Vermilion Parish Hospital Service District #1, and the hospital name will remain the same in accordance with its original founding. Tax money from the district will continue to be used to benefit the hospital.

The occasion highlighted the newly renovated hospital and was part of the hospital’s 55th anniversary celebration. Renovations included a newly painted exterior to better seal the hospital, new stormproof windows, new air conditioning units in patient rooms, new furniture, updated landscaping and a repainted parking lot for better traffic flow.

The hospital first opened in the summer of 1960, but the anniversary celebration was delayed in lieu of the completed renovations and new management agreement. AKMH CEOBryce Quebodeaux gave a few brief remarks, along with LGH President David L. Callecod, FACHE at the ceremony, which began at 2 p.m. on the outdoor grounds of the hospital.
